Munich-based publisher HUSS-Verlag, along with its logistics magazine Logistra, has created a new award which will recognise the growing use and distribution of Cargo Bikes. The award, named ‘International Cargo Bike of the year (CABOTY), will honour the efforts of manufacturers in the development of innovative and practical bike concepts for professional use, focussing on trends and development in this fast growing segment.
Linked with renowned ‘International van of the Year’ award, in which HUSS Verlag represents the German jury member, the International Cargo Bike of the Year intends to showcase innovations in the industry, offering publicity to cargo bike manufacturers and promoting ingenuity.
“We see a clear trend towards the usage of cargo bikes in urban logistics, not just last-mile but also in trade and craft. There are hardly any logistics companies not running pilots with bikes or already using them in daily business. With the rapid electrification of B2C-bicycles, professional cargo bikes have gained a lot in technical level and broad potential application”, explains Johannes Reichel, Head of Testing and Technology at Logistra.
Following a rigorous testing process, the International Cargo bike Award will be presented for the first time at the renowned International Cargo Bike Festival (ICBF). The 2019 edition of the ICBF takes place from 14-16th of June in the Dutch city of Groningen. At the ICBF the leading experts and practitioners of the cargo bike industry come together annually, to test the latest models and discuss the latest developments. Also integrated in the festival will be light electric vehicles.“With the ongoing growth of deliveries and service logistics due to e-commerce business, the negative effects are becoming more and more obvious. Environmentally aware organisations everywhere are searching for sustainable solutions“, said Jos Sluijsmans, Founder and Director of the ICBF.
HUSS Verlag recently published a new reference book dealing with the topic of cargo bike usage and concepts. The guidebook: “Nachhaltige Stadtlogistik: Warum das Lastenfahrrad die Letzte Meile gewinnt” (Sustainable city logistics: Why cargo bikes gain the last mile) intends to help logistic experts involved in setting up cargo bike fleets. It was edited by well known logistics scientist Prof. Ralf Bogdanski of the Technical University of Nuremberg. The special interest publication LOGISTRA of HUSS-Verlag has also organised several expert forums and symposiums and portrayed lots of organisations running pilots with its ”Best practice” -report-serial“ LOGISTRA City Check”
