ICBF to release Carrier Magazine Issue 02, showcasing global impact of cargo bikes

Expect an engaging selection of stories with a truly international flavour
The International Cargo Bike Festival (ICBF) will publish the second edition of Carrier, their internationally-focused magazine, this month. Featuring an inspiring collection human-centred stories of people who ride cargo bikes from across the world, the print magazine will be unveiled at an evening event in Hamburg on 13th June and will be sold online and via select outlets from 14th June.
Issue 02 of Carrier builds on the high-quality format, look and feel of the first edition. Printed on high quality, responsibly-sourced paper, Carrier Issue 02 is a coffee table style magazine that readers will want to keep on the shelf.
Issue 02 also continues the publication’s commitment to showcasing the transformative power of cargo bikes, not just as a mode of transport, but as a catalyst for community, sustainability, and adventure. It delves into the diverse experiences of cargo bike users and communities worldwide, often highlighting their ingenuity and resilience. Readers can anticipate features on:
- Community & Resilience: a series of stories showcasing the impact of cargo bike initiatives on communities in The Philippines, Austin, Valencia, and London.
- Hamburg – cargo bike city?: A deep-dive into the cargo bike culture of Germany’s second city, through the eyes of some of its most interesting innovators.
- Cargo bikepacking in Mongolia and Norway: Faiz Anhar on navigating Mongolia’s wilderness – and hospitality – by cargo bike. Plus, Markus Stitz on a cargo bikepacking journey through Norway’s winter wonderland.
- Biciminga: How a new generation is using pedal power to revive a time-honoured Chilean tradition.
- Made in Mali: Makan Dramé dreams of tackling Bamako’s chaotic traffic and urban sprawl with an affordable, locally-made cargo bike.
- Cargo Bike Emoji: Why isn’t there an emoji for the cargo bike? Dave Majarich on why the time is ripe.
- And more…
Distribution
The magazine, which until now has been distributed in print to visitors at the ICBF, will for the first time be available to a much larger audience; readers worldwide will be able to buy Carrier Via the ICBF webshop (cargobikefestival.com/shop), shipping from 14th June, although readers will be able to buy their copy in advance via a pre-sale announced in the coming days. In another first, Issue 02 also offers select cargo bike dealers, bookstores and specialist magazine outlets the chance to share in Carrier’s success, offering them a new income stream by selling the magazine.
Release party
On 13th June, a release party will be held in Hamburg to celebrate the release of Carrier Issue 02. Held in conjunction with local organisation Cargobike Collective and hosted by XYZ CARGO, the evening event will be an opportunity to discuss the cargo bike in both local and worldwide contexts with presentations, networking DJs and drinks. Tom Parr, Editor of Carrier, will be there to unveil the magazine and discuss the motivation to write – and outcome of – a deep-dive article on Hamburg’s fascinating cargo bike culture, as well as a selection of the other articles in Issue 02.
You can find more information about the release party here.
“We’re incredibly excited to bring Carrier Issue 02 into the world” said Tom Parr, Editor of Carrier and Co-organiser of the International Cargo Bike Festival. “For us, it’s about connection. With stories from The Philippines, Chile, Germany, Mongolia, the Netherlands, the USA, Mali, Spain, the UK and Norway, we’re showing that the cargo bike is a ready to roll solution that can make impact anywhere in the world. We’re thankful to all who contributed.”
Alongside Parr, Carrier was produced by Creative Editor Cyril Chermin, Designer Aaron Griffiths (of Far Ride and Other Means) and Copy Editor Cathy Tuttle. It is printed in Lithuania by KOPA, and will be distributed by Velocity of Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
