Zag Daily reports doubling of cargo bike use in London in two years

Cargo bike use in London rose 104% between 2022 and 2024. That’s according to a report from sustainable mobility media platform Zag Daily, written by reporter Sela Musa. The numbers, which come from an analysis by Clean Cities, are drawn from cycling data from Transport for London. The figures also coincided with the now annual London Cargo Bike Cruise (pictured), which brings riders together to celebrate progress in cycle logistics across the capital.
Clean Cities Campaign Manager Zak Bond is quoted by Zag Daily calling for ‘Dutch Courage’ to increase cargo bike adoption across the UK: “London should learn from what works in other countries like the Netherlands,” Zak added. “A zero-emission urban freight zone must be a true partnership between boroughs, industry and the Mayor.”
Meanwhile, a meetup discussing this and other UK-based developments around cycle-logistics will be held at this year’s upcoming International Cargo Bike Festival. The session, The Great British Cargo Bike Boom. What next for cycle logistics in the UK?, will be led by Lee Pugh, Co-Chair of the UK’s new Sustainable Urban Freight Association (SUFA) and Daniel Bianco, Transport Planner at Brighton & Hove City Council.
